What are Accounting Codes?
Accounting Codes (often called expense categories or GL codes) are labels used to classify your financial transactions. By assigning these codes to expenses or purchase orders, you ensure your financial reports are accurate and tax-ready.
Examples of common codes include:
Cost of Goods Sold
Office Supplies
Sub-Contractor
Advertising Expense
How to Manage Accounting Codes
Step 1: Access the Settings
Navigate to Settings from the main menu.
Scroll down to the Accounting section.
Click on Accounting Codes.
Step 2: View and Search
You will see all your active codes displayed as "chips" on the screen.
Search: Use the search bar at the top left to quickly find a specific code (e.g., type "Rent" to see if it already exists).
Step 3: Add a New Code
Click the Blue Plus (+) button on the right side of the screen.
Type Name: Enter the name of the new expense category (e.g., "Vehicle Maintenance").
Save: Click the Checkmark or Save button to add it to your list.
Step 4: Edit or Delete
To make changes to an existing code:
Hover over the specific code chip you want to change.
Edit: Click the Pencil Icon to rename the code.
Delete: Click the Trash Can Icon to remove the code permanently.
Pro Tip: Keep your accounting codes aligned with your main accounting software (like QuickBooks or Xero). Using the same names in WIZniche makes reconciliation much easier for your bookkeeper.
